Re: spec analysis help

I don't see ANY spectral energy above 16khz. That says lossy source to my eyes

Re: spec analysis help

thanks for your opinion , to my eyes they all look suspect but i was kind of hoping that maybe someone can say whether any of them look like mini disc source as i have difficulty telling the difference between that and mp3.

Re: spec analysis help

Mini Disc frequency response extends well beyond what you're showing in these spectrals. MD would be MISSING frequencies, but it certainly has spectral energy above 16Khz.

Re: spec analysis help

mp3 too in many cases.

Anyway, tannis, the pics you posted look like they're mp3 sources indeed.

Re: spec analysis help

It is somewhat difficult to tell the difference between mp3 and MD. These are all lossy and to my eyes all look like they could feasably be MD.

Inconclusive, at this point, of course.

could you tell us some more about the sources? Is this 3 shows or 8? what years?

Re: spec analysis help

it's eight different shows ranging from 1996-2003 all audience recordings as well , thats why i was curious about mini disc.

Re: spec analysis help

egad... did you get any lineage info with these?

It will be hard to find 100% conclusive evidence these are MD, but they look to me like they could be. Are you looking to seed any one of these?

Re: spec analysis help

i recieved these discs in a snail mail trade with no lineage , i certainly would not be looking to seed these particular discs due to the quality , im just trying to learn as much as possible about spotting these things.

Re: spec analysis help

tannis, have you ever read this page? It may help you learn a bit about this stuff. I think Five knows of a couple of other links also.
