Unable to seed after download

I'm completely new at using bittorrent clients so probably there's a simple explanation for this.

I downloaded a show and all went perfectly fine. Afterwards I figured I would seed the same show for other downloaders, the torrent automatically went into seeding mode so I thought everything was OK. But it's not uploading. I've tried stopping and restarting it and all, but it's not helping. 0.0 kbps - that's all I'm getting. The files I downloaded are still in the same folder and I haven't touched them.

What do I have to do to avoid getting the worst share ratio in the history of this community?

Re: Unable to seed after download

I just downloaded the same thing you're seeding and it seems you're OK. I think it was just that no one else was leeching that torent until I did!

One hint: Don't jump on torrents that are at the "end" of their run.

Example: 3 seeders/0 leechers/275 snatched.

If you just joined, this torrent is guaranteed to start you on the path to
ratio hell, as there is no one to share with, and none likely to join. Even
if you do, and one other person joins later, the best you will likely do is
share about 25% or less.

This is common amongst newbies as they rush to grab everything thing
before it disappears.......

Re: Unable to seed after download

Oh, so that's how it works - the show I am trying to seed won't upload until someone tries to download what I am seeding? Then I'm definetely on the way to ratio hell already, thanks for the heads up.

Bugger, I should have realised there were plenty of newbie traps like this.

Here's a couple of ways to improve your ratio:

1) Seed a show yourself. Run a few searches and upload something
that doesn't exist here. Make sure it meets the rules of the site.

2) Get on a couple of torrents early. Watch the new posts and grab
a couple of shows and STAY ON THEM.

Whether or not TTD enforces a share ratio, you will find that many users
here watch and will flame you when you post.......

Re: Unable to seed after download

Thanks for the help and advice guys, I appreciate it.

I'm gonna lay off those older torrents now, however tempting they might be.

I'm gonna figure out how - if - I can best contribute with boots from my own collection. I got some Candlemass that isn't very circulated. But I fear that my collection, and my general preferences, might be aimed too much towards metal for this community, considering what artists that seems to be shared most frequently.
