Re: burning shn/flac to cd-what to use

If you just want to burn audio CDs, Exact Audio Copy is great, and free. It's also a great audio CD extractor that has error correcting extraction.
www.exactaudiocopy.de

IMG Burn is excellent and free for burning data and DVD-Video. It will turn your data into an .iso file first, and then you can burn the .iso, so you have to have some extra disc space to create the .iso.
http://www.imgburn.com/

If you don't want to create an .iso first, ONES is a great burning program, but it is about $25.
http://ww1.tx-software.com/boutique_...&code_lg=lg_us

-it is recommended to archive the SHNs and FLACs as data to preserve the original fileset. FLAC > WAV > burn audio CD > EAC > WAV > FLAC changes the fingerprint and is not allowed to be traded or reseeded here and at many other sites.

Foobar2000 is a great free media player for a PC. It has built in FLAC support and you can get the SHN plugin here: http://foosion.foobar2000.org/components/
www.foobar2000.com

Good luck!

Not necessarily. If you've set up EAC correctly and there are no extracting problems you get exactly the same wav file (and hence the same fingerprint). But you're right, if you want to be sure archive APEs/SHNs/FLACs as data to preserve the original fileset.

Yeah, you have to correct the write offset on the burn and correct the read offset on the extraction, and the original fileset can't have any SBE's or header errors in order for it to work. Or correct the combined read/write offset on CDs that haven't been burned with the write offset corrected, and then do the extraction. I figured that might be too much info for a novice though, and would require a complex explanation on how to do it.

Re: burning shn/flac to cd-what to use

From what you've posted so far, you're having issues with multiple applications, multiple brands of media and even different types of media (CDRs and DVDRs).

What does that leave as a constants? Your burner, for one. You might try slowing down the burn speed to the lowest possible to see if it makes a difference.

Re: burning shn/flac to cd-what to use

also what speed are you burning at? I would recommend about 8X for CDs, 4X for DVDs. The faster you burn, the more errors are possible. Do you have any other programs running when you burn, torrents running etc. I would recommend you restart, then run only the burning program, burn at a midrange speed, and use quality media. Memorex blows. Taiyo Yuden is the best, Verbatim is good, Sony is good.
