DVD burner power supply question

Just bought a new burner off ebay, but it came without a power adapter. So I went and got a 12v (as specified on the drive), 500mA adapter. But the burner won't turn on.

Did I get a power adapter without enough mA? Or did I get a dud burner?

Re: DVD burner power supply question

Okay I'm thinking about it and remember that sony like to use reverse polarity. if you have a way to reverse the polarity on your ac adapter you can try that. might work better with 800mA but I am guessing it is just a polarity problem & it will work fine with 500 too

Re: DVD burner power supply question

MPA-AC1 is the correct power supply, according to Sony. Run a quick
search, they are available all over....

Re: DVD burner power supply question

Searched ebay with "mpa-ac1" and got nothing, and having trouble finding ones online for under $40 - is there any site you can point me to? Or, what terms should I be using for the search to find the right thing?

Sorry to be a pain, my adapter knowledge is almost nil, as I'd never bought something without it before (and this may be the last time).

Re: DVD burner power supply question

you can get a universal adapter with a polarity-reversal switch for $10 or $20 (800mA is more expensive). it is a useful thing to have around anyways. but if your burner acts at all strange it is best to buy the overpriced sony power supply, those bastards
