24-bit audio

Well after UPS managed to drop/smash the box containing my DVD player while moving it to California for me, I am in the market for a new DVD player (with their money :-). My question is this: in order to be able to play 24-bit audio what kind of hardware do I need? Does just the DVD player need 24-bit support or would my receiver need it too? Thanks in advance.

Re: 24-bit audio

Thanks for the link. This looks interesting, and I've saved it to go through offline later (I don't have internet in my apartment right now, so I'm only getting limited time out at a public access point), but it was too much to weed through right now.

Does anyone have a quick answer to this question? Also, I would love recommendations on which DVD player to get (I would like it to support DVD-A if possible).

I don't know why I can't edit my last post but I can edit my first, but anyhow, the one I'm looking at right now is here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1077630479848. Let me know if anyone knows anything about this one.

Re: 24-bit audio

i'd recommend getting a region- and zone-free DVD player, especially if you trade DVD shows. this makes the whole PAL/NTSC thing a non-issue. i know B&H had a few in the price range yer lookin...

re: 24bit--to really hear the difference of 24bit, you have to have a receiver that does 24bit as well.

i've heard that as well, but as far as i know theres no list of which actually are and which aren't...

you can buy one that's specifically region/zone free for around ~$125-$150...which seems kinda steep, but are fairly high-end components

Re: 24-bit audio

OK, I read that whole guide last night and now I am confused about a totally different subject: the whole widescreen vs. fullscreen issue.

Here is the thing, my Dad has a 54" wide screen HDTV. When we watch a widescreen DVD on it, we still get letterboxing (and I don't mean the miniscule 2% that the guide mentioned). Is this because the DVD player is set up incorrectly?
