external hd problems

hey I have been pulling the 14 gig 10-31-80 gd show to a 300GB external drive conected to my comp with a usb cable. It has worked fine for some time but recently when I return to my comp the bt client has discnected. the client shows an error message that there is no such directory to dl to. there is also a message on the screen asking me what windows should do with the drive that it has located. the hd usually runs great for hours and then will spontaneously dismount and remount leaving my bt client confused. The drive is an external seagate drive and I am running windows xp sp2. Does anyone have any idea why my hd is disconecting from my comp. Any input will be appreciated.

I have a two external Western Digital HD, and haven't seen this. Sounds like a problem with the drive/OS. I didn't see anything on seagates troubleshooting, so try here, and ask seagates technical support:
