2 Second Gap....

So I Just got some previously uncirculated, never released recordings straight from Suzanne Vega but when she burned them to disc for me she burned with a damn 2 second gap between tracks(i hate to call and ask for reburns) so i guess what i am asking is does anyone have any ideas to get rid of them other than using cdwave and cutting the 2 second breaks out of each song? I cant think of any other solution than that but it never hurts to ask...Thanks in advance for any help....

Re: 2 Second Gap....

nope sorry the only way is to cut out the gaps, carefully check that the edits haven't introduced any clicking (toggle spectral view in an app like Audacity/Audition/EAC or something and look for "red posts" that shouldn't be there), then fix the SBEs after you're done.

Sounds like you've got an amazing find on your hands, good job! If you don't feel confident about editing the TAO gaps in any way drop me a pm I'd love to help with this (if you need it).

Re: 2 Second Gap....

There's a command-line program called SoX that you can use to automatically trim silence from the beginning/end of a file. But if you are not comfortable something like this
Code:
sox infile tmpfile silence 1 0:0:0.01 -55d reverse
sox tmpfile outfile silence 1 0:0:0.01 -55d reverse
then I suggest sticking to a graphical wave editor. If you've got a lot of files, sox can be a real time saver.

No. There's not guarantee they will match up exactly. If they don't, you get a click. You need to do it manually.

But going over the joined .wav file with (lets say) adobe audition will show the clicks and you can fix them then - correct????

The reason why I ask is when I rip the audio from GM DVD in order to burn them to cd-r the conversion from 48khz to 44.1khz always causes sbe's so I join the files and use adobe audition to fix the index clicks and then re-track

Re: 2 Second Gap....

the only thing is the silence isn't at the exact end of the tracks, its usually a little before, like this:

Re: 2 Second Gap....

also, I know it seems to defy logic but removing exactly the silence and only the silence can still leave a pop. it needs to be looked at and listened to carefully after editing is done (and/or re-done).

i suspect it might not work on windows XP, if it's DOS based.

Re: 2 Second Gap....

I seriously would recommend going down the route that Five explains above. If you're not confident in using the software or it doesn't work properly it might result in further problems. Removing gaps is quite an exact science which takes quite a lot of time and patience. Good luck!
