Dell Inspiron E1405 no DAO

I just bought a Dell Inspiron E1405 with a DVD burner/CD RW combo. Apparently it does not support DAO cd burning. Is this a common problem? Is there any way around this? Is this thing a $1000 doorstop? Thanks.

Re: Dell Inspiron E1405 no DAO

I didn't know that a computer could determine if a disc is burned DAO or TAO. I had one hell of a time getting my DVD burner to work correctly on my new Dell. I'm on my 3rd burner in 8 months. I finally fixed my own by upgrading the writer's firmware. I had a different problem but you might search here http://club.cdfreaks.com/ for your writer and see what you find.

what program are you burning with? if it is possible to burn with EAC then you can do gapless offset-adjusted perfect burns.

Re: Dell Inspiron E1405 no DAO

Thanks for your help. The Dell just couldn't do it. I usually burn with CD Burner XP Pro, but I tried several others including EAC (which I could quite figure out how to burn with though I know how to copy). I might have been able to create a cue sheet each time I burned and then go into it and delete the gaps manually, but that would suck. Luckily, I was still within my 21 day return period. Thanks.
