Question Probably considered sacrelige...

But I wanted to know if downloaded DVDs could be converted into MPEG or AVI, and if so, does anyone recommend how I should go about doing it. I want to be able to get it onto my iPod

And in case you were wondering, I never have nor ever will trade anything in lossy formats

Re: Probably considered sacrelige...

Yeah I'm having major issues with this... The most promising guide I found to convert DVD .Vobs into .Avi or MPEG ended up being something that takes a noob like me at least 2 or 3 hours to do (I figured this out after doing the step-by-steps for over an hour, and only being about 2/5 done with the process) Not to mention I hit a deadend on step 3 where the details are too vague to figure out whats wrong

My brains gonna xplode so I'm quitting that. If anyone knows a simpler program for the task, hit me up. Otherwise I think I'm just running to the store and getting a DVD drive so I can watch this Tool show.

Thanks for the info by the way... when I wrote that reply earlier I should've quoted the person above me

You do know you can watch the DVD on your computer without having to burn a disc or converting it to an AVI? Download the trial version of PowerDVD and you'll be able to view the DVD straight from your PC. You can d/l PowerDVD from : http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/products/main_1_ENU.html

If you really want to convert the VOB files to an AVI then AutoGK is a simple and straighforward program you can use. A step by step tutorial can be found here: http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/autogk.htm (Skip Step 1 as you already have the DVD on your hard drive)

You really should fork out and get a DVD drive. You could probably ditch your CD burner as well because DVD burners also burn CDs...
