Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

Got a show from a taper who provided me his mic info (Nakamichi CM-701's)and recording device (Sony d7). Told him that I wanted to torrent the show, and needed to know how it got from his Sony D7 onto the CD he sent me. Asked him to fill in the ?? portion of this lineage -

Nakamichi CM-701's>Sony D7>??>CDR>EAC>WAV>Flac Frontend>FLAC

Got this reply - "I dubbed the Mofro show directly from the Sony D7 Dat recorder to an HHB CDR830. then copied it for you on my computers'drive(HG-DTST CD-RW GCE 8483B) and onto Iomega CDRW6402 EXT-B."

Not exactly sure what I should put as the lineage, or if I need more info from the taper (who has told me this is all the info he can give me).

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

well he's giving all kinds of cd drive info but what's really important is the sound card. from this info we can gather that the cdr in the lineage is cdr(0) which helps a little.

As is everything I've torrented here

I'll ask him what sound card he's got - is that the only other thing we need?

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

you could also ask which software he used to burn your audio cdr (maybe nero?) and you could note beside eac whether your offsets are corrected and which mode (secure or paranoid, but not burst!). also very nice to include the eac .log if you created one.

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

I was given this SRV show recently by a trader as he was archiving all his CDR’s to DVD. It is his original copy. I have a couple of questions.

  • The text below is the enclosed info file. I’m not sure how to decipher the lineage. Is this a copy of a pressed CD?
  • I searched the audio BT forum here and didn’t see this show listed. Is this the best source for this show? If I can figure the lineage out I would like to seed it here at TTD.
Thanks, Blackdog

Info file:

Ripped from original silver cd* via eac>(dbpoweramp)flac.
The notes at willmot show the cd as a cdr, yet the pressing I had,
and ripped this from was indeed a factory silver cd, not a cdr.

From the original seeder notes, it looks like this is from the original factory pressed CD. It doesn't say the label, but it could be one that just presses to CD-R, not silvers. I'm that familar with that and don't know much about which labels do this or not. Maybe send Five a PM about it. He may know.

If there is a factory pressed CD (silver or CD-R) and EAC was used to extract the files, then that is the best version from that source. (Now, whether it is the best *source*, I don't know. There could be some awesome recording done by someone else that is being hoarded somewhere. )

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

you can seed it with the info as-is. I you could write it like this:

Silver > EAC > FLAC

but the way the info is written

Quote:

is even more detailed and better.

I know there's a couple serious SRV guys over at royal-orleans.com so I started a thread to ask if they knew of any better source for these recordings. It is always a good idea to do this kind of research before seeding!

I'll post back and let you know what comes of it (or if you're a member at r-o you can follow the thread I started over there in the Friends forum).

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

no reponse yet...

we can give it a little time or if you're itching to seed go for it.

its just a drag when a show gets seeded and somebody posts in the thread, you're expecting to see something like "wow thanks, I saw this show and have been looking for it for 20 years!" and instead see "this is an inferior source"

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

No hurry!..I'm still reviewing the tutorial in BitComet on "How to make a torrent". This is the first time I've done this and I'd rather take my time and double check myself than have mistakes later..........Thanks for helping

Oh........and thanks for the Metallica!

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

Hi there--this question is about the first in a series of fairly low circulation Porcupine Tree shows I'd like to seed. My question is whether or not it would be acceptable for me to mention the mics and rig in the lineage information I provide if I'm not 100% certain that's the exact source (I'd say I'm about 95% certain of the mics and rig used, since there isn't another documented source in circulation of the show in question).

Here's the show I want to seed: http://db.etree.org/myshows_detail.php?showid=5886428

The part of the lineage I am certain of would be the following, and yes, I do have the EAC log files (okay, I don't know which program he used for the FLAC encoding--I think he used TLH, but I don't want to guess):
CD-R [x] > EAC > WAV > FLAC

So would it be acceptable for me to mention the 'Aiwa CM-DS6 > Sony WM-D3' part in the lineage?

I suppose this question more or less applies to the other shows I got in this trade. Quite a few of the shows were extracted from audio CD-Rs like the one in question (so they'd have the same bit of known lineage), but a couple are FLAC filesets that don't have a CD-R generation, yet the source is a best guess. Would those shows be acceptable, or am I going to have to seed those ones at DIME?

I'd like to seed as many of these shows over here as possible, since these shows have the potential to draw many PT traders to this site--this series of seeds I've promised to do has caused a fair amount of anticipation.

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

Sarah,

you could also mention beside EAC which mode you used and whether you have corrected your offsets (great tutorial for this in my signature). for example, if you were using secure mode with offsets corrected (ideal) then you could put EAC (secure, offsets corrected). this will also show in the log, off course so either way is fine. For the mics you have done your research and are 95% sure, so you could put in the lineage the mics and recorder with "(see notes below)" (no quotes) and put in the notes that you are 95% sure and the link etc. with cdr(x) it is also important to have a careful listen to the tracks for digital flaws, but seeing that you are such a big fan of this band I'm sure you've done this already.

it is uncertain whether your source has been re-flac'ed (i.e. FLAC > CDR > FLAC) but seeing as these shows are very rare, have never been seeded here before and are of semi-unknown origina I would say they are alright to seed here. even the source at etree has some ? in the lineage so for all we know your source might even be cleaner.

Re: Seeding/Lineage Questions?

So, I have a Shannon Curfman show (probably from STG) that I wanted to put up. The info file has this:

SHN Lossless Format
Digital Recording on Sony D8 DAT
Digital Transfer to CD-DA Audio Only Discs
On A Pioneer PDR555-RW Stand Alone Burner

So, would that be:
Lineage: Sony D8 DAT > Pioneer PDR555-RW > CD > ? > SHN
