Re: Foobar question

Why not just convert FLAC to WAV? That would sound better than a conversion from mp3 unless you don't have the files in any format except mp3.

I'm not on my home pc right now so I can't doublecheck Foobar2000 but if it does convert mp3 to WAV, I think you first "add" the mp3 files, then select them all with your mouse and right click the group of files and choose "convert to same directory" or "convert to" for a different directory, and a box will open asking you what format to convert the files to and there should be a WAV option.
I never looked for it as I just started using Foobar a few weeks ago and so far have only used it to convert WAV to mp3.
Good luck.

Re: Foobar question

flac is just a lossless compression of a wav file. They will both sound the same.

mp3 is lossy. Converting it to either flac or wav will not make it sound any different than it does as an mp3. If you just want to listen to your mp3s in the car, convert them to wav and burn. But, never, ever, EVER trade them as an audio disc (actually, just don't trade them period).

Re: Foobar question

Open the mp3s in Foobar.

With the list of files in the Foobar window, select all (Ctrl+A) and right-click on one of them. This should bring up a dialogue box with options, one of which will be Convert.

Click that and select target format, and a folder to put the output files into.

i guess i wasn't clear, but what i was trying to do was to play the files to listen to them, not convert them.

shn plugin's place is in the "components" folder.

But, after the crash, it's probably broken (I guess), so download it from foobar components repository - https://www.foobar2000.org/component..._input_shorten

Double click on it - choose "install" then go through all the warnings and you're sorted. To make sure it's installed, go to foobar's menu "file - preferences - components" and check if it's there:

Re: Foobar question

@mr breeze if you use 64-bit version of Foobar, shn plugin won't be loaded as it's available in 32-bit only. There is ongoing re-programming of older components so maybe also shn component will appear some day.

However, shan container is well obsolete, while flac is also supported by most modern standalone hardware devices.
