Question DVD Authoring for Idiots (thats me!)

..Hi everyone.

I m a new guy here and would like to thank everyone here for all their efforts.

-but I do have a question.

Being new here, I have not been able to figure out how to burn any of the DVDs I have downloaded with their menus intact.

Nero does not want to let me burn a dvd with the menus included in the downloads. It will let me burn the chapters, but it cant seem to recognize the menu files that come with the download. It labels them a slideshow, and flashes the image as a still for 30 seconds.

(Nero does however have these really ugly menus included in the program)

so I guess I need to:

chuck Nero?
get some better authoring software?

any suggestions would be appreciated. I am gonna roll over to wikipedia and see what I can find there,

thanks, Drano............

Use ImgBurn or CDBurnerXP (this one is more user friendly). I'm sure Nero can burn DVDs, but I don't know how because last time I've use it was at least 3 years back.

Re: DVD Authoring for Idiots (thats me!)

I think you were trying to use Nero Vision Express. That is a DVD Authoring program used to make the menus and not what you use to burn. All DVDs here are already authored. You should be using Nero or Nero Express with aar.oner's instructions above.

Re: DVD Authoring for Idiots (thats me!)

Hey thanks for all the help you guys, I really appreciate it.

First, I am going to try AAA.oner's instructions for using Nero. (I did find similar instructions in an earlier post. I tried them and they didnt work for me. Maybe I did something wrong)

I think what Saltman said was correct.

If I cant get Nero to work, I will try the programs Kill Them All suggested.

last but not least, I can go out and buy some recording equipment and make it my hobby to go around taping shows and spend my life.........

thanks for the assistance, I will try this stuff, and report back here when I have some news.

peace, Drano....

Aaron's post should work well if you have nero.

Re: DVD Authoring for Idiots (thats me!)

I use a different method to burn mine with Nero.

In Nero Burning ROM
I select DVD-video
[new]
In the compilation window, I open the VIDEO_TS folder
On the file browser side, I find the DVD on my hard drive, then copy the contents of that VIDEO_TS folder to the compilation

Then burn the project.

Has worked just fine for me this way.
Also, if you want to you can also add any covers, info files, checksums, etc.
You just have to copy them to the main directory. (above the VIDEO_TS folder)

IF it matters, I'm on a PC and using Nero 6.3.0.3

Re: DVD Authoring for Idiots (thats me!)

....thanks to everyone for your help. You guys are great.

I have to take back my statement that Nero is bullshit because it just shows my impatience and that is what makes me an idiot.

I know Nero is probably a great program and does a lot of stuff.

What does annoy the crap out of me is that Nero doesnt include manuals with its software.

I just went to Nero and downloaded a 92 page manual for the Burning Rom !!

92 pages ???? what the ??????????

thats only for the Burning Rom ! You'd probably have to kill a few trees if you wanted to print the manuals for the entire suite.

thanks to all for the help, I am gonna take a few days and digest all this stuff and post back later....

thanks again , Drano

p.s. Canadian Hockey fans ARE idiots !!! GO CANUCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: DVD Authoring for Idiots (thats me!)

Good News Everybody !!!

Kill Them All 1000's suggestion of CDBurnerXP worked quickly and easily for me. I burned a data disc DVD on the first try. (thank you!)

...Obviously using this (nero software, and DVD software) is a pretty big set of skills that I am gonna need to spend some time on learning.

Nero is a great program, but its just annoying sometimes when you want to do things quickly, and the quick fix isn't in front of your nose.

...and daddyrayroll,

THE BLACKHAWKS SUCK. But until the Canucks D can figure out how to deal the 270 lb Byfuglien planting his fatass in front of Lou's net, we ain't going no further.

that big bag of shit effectively ended the Caucks playoff run last year and it looks like hes gonna do it again this year.

(maybe there will be some coaching changes in Vancouver this year???)

peace, and thanks to all. -db
