old vhs tape lossy??

i have an old vhs tape of a live show. i transfered the audio to a single wav file and it had a massive lego block skyline. how can that be. i thought an old vhs recorder would be the same as using an old music cassette. ie lossless. anyone weel versed in old vhs stuff can explain why it is or appears lossy?

Re: old vhs tape lossy??

The audio was either recorded as a linear track, in the same way as an audio cassette, or, on HiFi VHS, as a frequency-modulated track, helically scanned.

Can't tell which from here.
