Try "screen grabber" "screen capture" video They are basically screen capture programs that record to varying formats. Most of the free ones are pretty grainy though. You can even specify the boundaries of the capture and not the whole screen. I've used one before to capture an encrypted flash slideshow of pictures from a wedding that was posted by the photographer.

Re: proggy for recording what I see on my comp screen

thanks a million, I'm investigating...

I'm trying to work with wink, the visuals are great and the filesize is nice and small but the audio is unbelieveably shit has to be wav/mp3 at a sample rate of 11025Hz for that proggy If I could get better audio onto a wink-generated swf that would also be great, but I don't know how to do that either.

Are you going to need to use this program for more than 30 days? I'm not certain if it handles sound (and if so, how well), but I know Camtasia Studio was fantastic for the bit of screen recording I did a while ago. That being said, if you need to use it for more than the trial period, it is pretty expensive (about $300).

thanks for the tips

in case somebody stumbles on this thread in the future, I found this:
camstudio.org

it is working great so far, except for the audio portion which I can replace anyways.

Hey Five,
You can use....
...you can use...
...you can use...
...aw cr*p!...the one time I know the answer to something I'm away from the computer for the day..... "I" was going to say Camtasia...<sigh>....

Oh well, glad you found something that worked for you. It's a good program-I remember seeing them market it at Comdex in Vegas years back when they were starting.

There's another program that is simple easy to use called HyperCam that I've used with success on older (P3) computers too in case anyone is looking at an alternative. It's not so slick looking but it does a nice job.
