wav to flac to torrent guidance

Hello. I've taken quite a few shows from this site and I'd like to give something back, such as Sabbath in Worcester 11/4/83 and Spectrum, Phila 11/5/83. I have many shows that I taped and traded in mid 80s- early 90s, alot are uncirculated- Chili Peppers, Faith No More, Soundgarden, Who vinyl boots, 100s of Metallica shows from 82-89, etc

Can someone guide me to where I can find information about turning wav files into flacs and then into a torrent? I'm an old school cassette taper that did worlwide trading of many metal and punk shows, but I have a lot of classic rock boots as well.

Any help would be appreciated. I have recently downloaded Audacity to make wav files out of cassettes (currently using Musicmatch to turn cassette to Mp3s)and I have sound forge editing program. I also have uTorren and flacfontend.

Thanks.

or

Two programs to convert .wav to flac

Traders Little Helper can alse be used to create checksum/fingerprints

Re: wav to flac to torrent guidance

you'll also need a decent deck & soundcard to get it to digital

you can use audacity.sourceforge.net to actually record it to your comp

best not to put a bunch of eq and stuff on it, just leave it raw.

let us know what equipment you've got now & any questions. always great to see new stuff get into circulation

Re: wav to flac to torrent guidance

Thank you for your help. I'm almost there. I transferred a Black Sabbath radio show (Worcester 11/4/83 ) from cassette to wav using audacity. I then divided the show into songs using soundforge. Then, I used multifrontend to create flacs to wavs. A couple of questions:

MakeTorrent program does not work when I download it. There is a runtime error. Can I make a torrent using uTorrent or is there a better free-ware program to use to create torrents?

What are the .sfk files that were generated when I created the flacs? Do those files need to go into the torrent as well?

When I'm finally ready to upload this torrent what information do I need to put in the "fingerprints or checksums" column? Please give me an example.

Thanks! Once I get this settled, I have a lot of shows i can contribute to this site.

i'm not sure about uTorrent, but i know Azureus [the BT client i use] will allow you to create torrent files...i would assume uTorrent would to, but am not positive

the .sfk files are files that Soundforge created...these can be moved, or even deleted, and should NOT be added to the torrent

i would use Trader's Little Helper for everything regarding lossless audio [encoding wav-to-flac, decoding flac-to-wav, creating checksums, verifying checksums, etc]...it can be found here:
http://thor.prohosting.com/roh0205/

Five has written a great guide regarding checksums here:

Re: wav to flac to torrent guidance

Great. Thanks.

I created checksums and they look like this:

dcb0fb020c2e93b5b8e4cba38fa84805 *1 Intro- Supertzar.flac
0ee3d01292f359846d1a57b911bb4fe8 *2 Children Of The Grave.flac
e3271ffe26de8c63b4c8e0bada318e3d *3 Hot Line.flac
87f07d0d93e1f9d3af24ca425d102316 *4 War Pigs.flac
548faa495f7600593992c4a92c320a2c *5 Stonehenge.flac
5c3f963a19ae70cc7d931a82b27bc478 *6 Iron Man.flac
067342de053273e73dd36727abca8a73 *7 Zero The Hero.flac

etc
Is that the info that should be posted in the checksum or fingerprint column when uploading a torrent?

wait... hang on, you should be using ffp/st5 for audio. the asterisk (*) means that is md5, which we only use for video here.

ffp looks like this:

look at the "checksums demystified" link in my signature for complete details on how to get the proper checksums. there's a screenshot and explanation for every step of the way.

Re: wav to flac to torrent guidance

I posted all the information on the upload form and when I went to up-load the torrent from my computer to the browser windo, I got this message:

Black Sabbath- Worcester 110483.torrent:
Invalid announce url! It MUST be http://www.thetradersden.org/forums/...r/announce.php

I have no idea what this means. Help please. Sorry for all the questions but I'm an upload virgin :-)

Re: wav to flac to torrent guidance

not sure which BT client yer using, but typically when you create a .torrent file, it asks what "announce url" to use...you want to use the one you posted above...

Re: wav to flac to torrent guidance

I'm still not getting this. Say my torrent file is:

C:/my documents/live shows/Black Sabbath/Black Sabbath 110483.torrent

How do I get that to upload and where do I put that tracker announce url, http://www.thetradersden.org/forums/...r/announce.php ?
