U-Tube to Vob? . . .
Under the fair use act can we download a You-Tube vid and convert it to a downloadable source, provided it's verified?

Is this a copyright issue question? haha
You can't upload lossy youtube videos to The Trader's Den.

Re: U-Tube to Vob? . . .
If you upload a dvd that is sourced from lossy files, is there a way to tell?

Yes, they re-encode for their own purposes. Totally lossy video. The Trader's Den has very high standards of quality assurance and quality control. You can share that stuff elsewhere...

Re: U-Tube to Vob? . . .
Not just for posting here. Any dvd could be wmv files burned to a dvd, and when you reupload the dvd, they're lossless vob files.

Re: U-Tube to Vob? . . .
Look, there's no 100% way to know if you video has come from YouTube. There are very high quality videos on YouTube these days, 1080p and even 4K video. If you were to download one of these videos and encode them to a 720 x 480 MPEG-2 VOB file then most people aren't going to be able to tell that they were sourced from YouTube.
FYI, all consumer based video is lossy. It's just too big to be uncompressed. Your video camera that records at 24Mbit/sec AVCHD will look fantastic, but it's compressed. If you were to create a Blu-ray from this you could leave the video untouched and it would be suitable to post on The Traders Den. You could even re-encode this video to MPEG-2 and it's still suitable for TTD (I disagree with this rule). If you want to share your videos, then it's best if you're honest and thorough with its lineage. If you don't know, upload a short sample of the original file to a hosting site (Mediafire/Dropbox etc.) so people can decide for themselves if they think it's worth downloading.
