Yeah, I do that all the time.

In my disc, I have the following folders:
VIDEO_TS (it contains all the VOB, IFO, and BUP files)
AUDIO_TS (empty)
EXTRA_TS (it contains the text files, coverart, and md5 checksums)

My discs have always played fine in both my computer and my standalone DVD player. I have heard of several people who do this same thing.
