Now, there's "lossy" and then there's "lossy", if you know what I mean! Haha! Those older minidisc recordings that are from MD masters might be "lossy" but as legacy masters there is no lossless version that they have been downsampled from, so they are as good as it gets...
There's something to be said about the atrac format of encoding that MD recorders used, in that it's still compressing data in a way that throws away some data and makes it lossy, but it does it in a way that is less somewhat damaging to the music. Less lossy than a comparable bitrate eMPty3 file, for example...
So, yeah, all ATRAC MD recordings are lossy, but not quite as lossy as the dreaded eMPty3 file might be. No reason to completely forget about them...
