MPEG 4 is great quality.

MPEG4 (AVC) > MPEG4 (XviD) > MPEG2 (DVD) > MPEG1 (VCD)

People think MPEG4 is worse quality then MPEG2 because MPEG2 is 4-9GB per movie, and thats great quality. But MPEG4 is normally 700GB or 1.4GB.

Oh, and the different kinds of MPEG4 are quite different. AVC beats XviD by quite alot.

AVC is also called MPEG-4 Part 10, and H.264.

Blu-Ray has much more space, but it is using the older and not as good MPEG2. HDDVD has less space, but is using the much better MPEG4.

So, for movies, HDDVD is better. For data, Blu-ray is better.
