I'm using linux mostly at the mo', and mounting iso images is dead easy.
However, for Windows, I think that
7-zip can handle extracting from an iso.
AcetoneISO lets you mount the iso images and from there you can copy the contents to elsewhere on your hard drive.

Btw, VLC will happily play iso files.
