sounds like a range issue, so the data is buffering. That is the greatest problem with wireless, which is why I plug my HD directly into the player. If you don't want to do that, you should look into a signal booster such as the Netgear Powerline 200 Nano.

I use the ativa mobil IT 7 port usb hub with portable HDs, so I don't have to use powered large HDs...I use 1 TB WD portables. Works beautifully!

The WD TV Live device will take a couple of minutes to read the files, but no more than a few minutes per TB of data.
