As I understand it, xACT uses cdda2wav w/lib paranoia as opposed to cdparanoia itself. How the two differ, I have very little idea, though I can never get cdparanoia to find my drive via the command line, only cdda2wav.
I believe it is the case that cdparanoia does not empty the cache between reads (in drives that cache audio, obviously) so correction is basically impossible/nullified if your drive does cache audio. I've asked xACT's author if the same situation obtains for cdda2wav and he said not, though I'd welcome further advice from knowledgeable sources.
