The file format depends on where you want to go with the finished product. If you are going to place it on a dvd for viewing on a set top player, then you'll want to select file>render as... and select mpeg-2 in the drop down box that is underneath the filename. You'll also want to click on the drop down box that says "select template" and choose NTSC DVD or PAL DVD (depending what part of the world you are in). From there you can either click save, or you can click the custom button to adjust your settings even more. Rendering will take some time, but it should yield a *.m2v file, which will be ready for dvd. To save the audio stream, repeat the same process, except select windows .wav for the file format, and 16 bit 48khz under the template. this should yield your dvd compliant .wav file. I hope that helps you out and doesn't confuse you.
