The first track on a cd always has a two second (or longer) pregap, it's called standard lead-in or something and there is no reason to mess with it. You do not have to worry about peak levels, they've got nothing to do with the extraction. You should also consider disabling C2 error correction and correcting the read offset. Some people also say that it is better to install an external aspi interface than to use the native windows interface.
