st5 checksums are audio-specific. they are similar to md5 (the kind that is there) except they calculate their hash from the audio content only. since shn is disappearing, being converted to flac, we need a checksum that can verify correct lossless transcoding. the hash that st5 checks will match ffp or st5 from a flac, ape or even wav set exactly. with md5 you would have to re-encode it back to shn with all of the correct compression and seek settings and also the correct version of the codec and after 10 tries you
might know if a set is identical or not.
