Wow. I thought it was 100% clear that no human can tell the difference between 16 and 24 bit. Maybe a few 15 year-olds? Maybe in a super quiet recording made in a studio direct to digital?

Anyway, I too record in 24 bit and also use the -12 dB backup file feature on my recorder. This is all just so I don't have to be extremely careful about setting levels while recording. However I share in 16 bit, there is absolutely no way that the noise floor in any venue is 16 bits below the loudest sound one records.

So live recordings, no way 24 bits makes sense. Studio, the science says no, but I will grant a "maybe in rare cases".

I know I sound like I'm trolling here, but I actually hold these beliefs pretty firmly.
