BBC programs, Rock Am Ring and Rockpalast are usually broadcast in the PAL format, so perhaps your DVD player is having issues with that.

Use G-Spot ( http://www.divx-digest.com/software/gspot.html ) to identify the audio codec used in these recordings. As pawel mentioned, some US DVD players have issues with the MPEG audio codec.

If the discs play fine in your computer then there's nothing wrong with them. There's probably an incompatibility with your standalone DVD player. The easiest way to fix the problem is to get a multi-format DVD player.
