I think he wants to know can I take an old 4:3 and make it widescreen. if that is what you are asking, No you cannot. a widescreen tv will automatically play it pillarboxed properly. you do not want to 'stretch it out' to fill in the black bars. you want the black bars.

if you try to take an old 4:3 and change it to 16:9 you have completely wrecked it and it is un-watchable. you have not "upgraded" it as some people seem to think on Dime.
