Back on topic. :-)
Rockbox completely failed on my iPod 3G. When booting, it would get memory errors or just freeze. I tried installing twice with the two different methods: same results. I suspect that it is not well tested on the iPod 3G.
This is not knocking Rockbox: I used it a few years ago on an old Archos system. I just suspect that it is more stable (that is, usable) on newer iPods.
