If you want suggestion for a split tool, Ive used
HJSplit successfully several times, for example someone i knew had dial-up and couldnt download huge files without choking the connection (and she couldnt use torrents either, because it would also choke her connection, or I would have made a private torrent). Its fairly small so you can just stick it on the last disk or something.
