Nero is usually trouble free unlike Roxio in my experience.
If things are locking up are you trying to do too much at once ? Nero writing to disc is resource demanding.
Make sure you run as little as possible while burning and burn slow DVD x4 CD x8 and all should be well.
Which version are you using ?
