What you are looking at is the
long term spectrum, but that is not very indicative of lossiness. You need the
short term spectrum, and audacity can also show you that.
Right click the track name, and select
Spectrogram - you should then alter the
Spectrogram Settings and set the
Window Size to
1024.
Then spotting lossiness is super easy. Top is lossless, bottom is 128kbps MP3. Note how the lossy version has sharp blocks and many missing pieces in the upper frequency range whereas the lossless source has a smooth falloff.
