Good intro! The only thing I would add is that you can use Cog (
http://cogosx.sourceforge.net/) to play flac and shn files without the annoying gap between tracks you get with iTunes, and there's no need to decode. It's a fairly rudimentary program, but I've never had a problem with it (it also seems to run on the new Intel chip machines). I've now pretty much given up burning CDs, except to use in my car. If I use Cog, I just drag and drop files to the interface and play straight from my HD to my system.
