MP3 (and other “lossy” formats) has traditionally been a sore spot in these parts. I think most are past the flame wars at this point. People are going to do whatever they want to do with their music.

The answer to your question is yes, converting the files (songs) to MP3 will degrade the quality of the sound. This is imperceptible/acceptable to many people, especially if done at higher bit rates.

If you get an iPod convert to AAC. It sounds identical to MP3 to me, and it's even more compressed.

Get ready to possibly be blasted by the MP3 haters.
