According to the flac documentation that can be found here:

• To encode or decode files that start with a dash, use -- to signal the end of options, to keep the filenames themselves from being treated as options.
• Option -c: Write output to stdout.
• Option -d: Decode.
• Option -s: Do not show encoding/decoding statistics.
