check out the Toshiba laptops - big bang for the buck & reliable.
hell its your money - for $1400 you should get something really nice.
if you're looking at macs - you're limited to a few model/config in that range.
i buy a laptop for the screen /weight / keyboard feel.
personally im not a fan of sony computers.
