I just looked on New Egg this morning and there is a very highly rated Plextor for $99. The guys at cdfreaks.com recently reviewed it. I think it is also the first 18x speed.
I was too cheap and may regret it, but I bought the Lite-On SHM-165P6S for just under $40 that they also did a good write-up on, mainly because my Lite-On cd-burner has been reliable and again because I'm on a budget(read: sneaking under the wife's financial radar
).
