It is very simple. You just open the case. Unplug the two cables (power and data, possibly a digital cable that goes to your sound card) at the rear. Remove old drive and install drive. Reinstall cables and you are done. Takes less than 5 minutes.
if you old drive is IDE it's going to be easiest to replace it with an IDE drive. SATA requires a different type of power connector that your computer may not have if it is older. It also has a different type of data connector.
