you have to convert the vids for ipod by right-clicking on them in your itunes, then select for it to sync videos/manually add them
I just got an 80gig vid ipod recently, so I'm not an expert but thought I'd chime in since I'm in a similar situation to yours and discovered this bit of info deep in the manual (available on apple.com).
