I assume by regular burn, you mean a video DVD with a VIDEO_TS structure?

Well, no, avi is not what you want for that. NTSC DV is simply a video "container" format that you can work with before you compress it down to mpeg2, the DVD standard. You can (almost) think of NTSC DV as you would a wav audio file.

In what ways do you want to work with this video in the future? If you just want to sync new audio, you don't need to save it as an avi. You could just compress it to mpeg2 and work with just the audio later.

But to answer your original question, it would be a data DVD. NTSC DV produces large files that might not fit on a DVD though.
