While we're on the subject: it should be noted that filters like equalization - and speed correction, balance and compression - are computationally inexpensive (by today's standards anyway) and can be applied to sources on the fly during playback on a computer..
No real need to set things in stone imo, especially not if they're so much of a matter of taste.
