Re: How to convert WMV to AVI on a mac?

You rang m'lord ?

These options are only for WMV 9 files.

If you have QuickTime Pro and the Flip4Mac plug in installed you can open the file, go File->Export and choose Movie to Save as AVI from the Export options, though the QuickTime component necessary for this is installed as part of the MPEG Streamclip package. If you don't see an option for this export in QT Pro then grab the component from this link (comes with the application) and stick it in /Library/QuickTime.

If you already have Toast 7 or later and have the Flip4Mac plug in installed then you can drag the WMV into Toast's Video pane, export it to DivX and change the extension to AVI after conversion, though this method is slow and you need to check your settings to make sure you don't bloat the converted file unnecessarily.

Another option would be VisualHub which is not free but does a pretty good job of most of the conversions it handles. I'm pretty sure that ffmpegX will not work with most recent WMV files (if it describes the video stream as WMV3 you're out of luck).
