There are a few threads about disc quality - make a search. Most people require quality media in a trade: Taiyo Yuden, Ritek, Verbatim, TDK (in such order). Regarding noname or less known brands, they use poor quality or throw-out production from mentioned manufacturers. Such discs usually have defects, and may oxidize very quickly hence you won't be able to read a disc after a few years.

You should! Even the quality of discs and burners improved a lot in recent years, it's better to burn audio discs in speed no higher than 8x (4 is recommended). Same with DVDs. Buy a few different brands and check which one burns best with your burner and software configuration - prog for PC (disc quality tab):

The higher speed then bigger chance for errors. You will see that even quality disc from the same batch may burn differently, some better, some worst.
