yeah I was thinking it could be from a bad soundcard or some wonky HIFI VHS machine or something screwy with the taper's mic (eg the cheapo mic in my ppc has a spike like this). Wherever it came from, the atrac has broken up the line (look in the sa) so therefore must have been in the signal before it MD-ified.
