View Full Version : Freeeware DVD Burners?
As a long-term audio-only taper/trader, I'm only now making a venture into DVD burning.
I'm using Free Easy CD DVD Burner by Kyoto Software, and some of my burns have been successful, others have left me with 'coasters' which won't play on my DVD player (Pioneer DVD-565)
This software has two options - drag files to the burning window, or drag folders to the window. I've tried dragging the contents of a VIDEO_TS folder and a VIDEO_TS folder to the window - there's very little in the way of instructions with the software, so generally speaking - should I burn the folder, or the content of the folder?
Both PCs are running Windows XP, so does anyone have any other suggestions for Freeware burners?

I would recommend Prassi ONES (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Prassi-ONES) or else ImgBurn (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/ImgBurn). (keep in mind that a dvd needs both a VIDEO_TS folder as well as an (empty) AUDIO_TS folder)
Ah, so when it opens up a Burning window that has a VIDEO_TS folder AND an AUDIO_TS folder as defaults, I should copy the content of the torrent's VIDEO_TS into the one in the burning window, maybe.....?

Imgburn is top in my book. It will give you help too. Try it out.

No, don't copy the "contents" of the folders. Drag both the entire "VIDEO_TS" and "AUDIO_TS" folders into the burning window.
It should look like this:

as far as authoring DVD's, i dont know much about that but Nero is supposed to be good...
for burning DVD's from what you download from trackers like this and DIME, yes just copy the entire VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS onto the blank DVD and burn and you're good to go.
for copying them, i use isobuster to copy the entire disc without having to decrypt it, less steps. other dvds can be finicky especially those i get in trades burned with god-knows-what software, dvd-decrypter is a great freeware that will break down the DVD to those VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directories. then you can just drag those onto another dvd to copy the original for a trade, or use those directories to seed them the way you would with FLAC files
for burning ISO's i just use windows image burner, works well.
Many of the torrents downloaded from here have only a VIDEO_TS folder.... what would be the difference between one with only a VIDEO folder (with embedded audio therein?) and one with a separate AUDIO folder?

I used to use BURN...set to data disk and then just drag the VIDEO_TS folder into the pane and hit it...now and then it would not work and then I got Toast one xmas....that always works.

in reality you dont need the audio_ts dir its an empty dir anyhow...
but its part of a "standard"... so if you liek you can leave it
same with an extra_ts take the files out of it drop it on hdd and delete the dir
jacket dir needs to stay if there is one =)
enjoy and use imgburn or ones and enjoy you're burning
