Today, this post appeared at Royal Orleans.

I spoke with Freezer's brother and he informed me that Mr. Freezer passed away. Art was a great friend of mine for many years and I'll sure miss you buddy.


PARR A.G. Parr, age 60, passed away at his home on Saturday, June 9, 2012. Father of Arthur Miles Parr. Beloved son of the late Arthur R. Parr and Joyce C. Parr. Brother of Rickey D. Parr and Darren J. Parr (Kathy). Uncle of Jay Parr, Karla Parr, Krystal Parr Williams, Taylor Parr, D.J. Parr, II and Matthew Parr. Great uncle of Shawn Parr, Jade Parr and Morgan Williams. A.G. was a member and past master of Metairie Lodge 444 F & AM and a member of the Jerusalem Shriners. Relatives, friends, fellow Masons and Shriners are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, LA. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm.

He always had a strong opinion and was very passionate about it.

I was quite saddened to hear about this. I was hoping to chat with him again sometime. He was a true inspiration going back to pre-internet trading. Got some of his tapes from a mutual friend in the late 1980's to kickstart my collection a few months before I started taping. He gave us a ride to and from the Alice Cooper show at the Pantages Theatre in 1990.

Honestly, that is my favorite freezer story. He played those kids like a violin. The whole thing was really enjoyable.

My favorite moment in this hobby was when my ex (who despises the tape taping hobby) told me, upon hearing me play the opening on one of old master tapes, "Oh, my friend had that album and we played it constantly."

My response was, "That is one of my tapes."

With a big smile, she said, "Oh no, it was on colored vinyl. I remember that guy yelling at the band. We loved that album."

And I said, "Don't you recognize my voice right there."

You could see the realization come across her face as she listened again. And her scowl just darkened while I was laughing.

She quit nagging me about the hobby after that.

Freezers on-line persona was different than reality, but his views were very consistent.
He sure could tell stories and he had some great ones. He was a very nice guy... and more generous than he got credit for.

He sourced some nice shows and he worked with many others in the torrent world to get much of it out there.

I guess i was one of the lucky ones then....he was always very nice to me.
But i never once asked him for anything even after he told me of all his masters.
I think the biggest thing that happend early on was the fact that some of his recordings were bootlgged on lp back in the day almost as fast as he released them.
From everything i've read, that really got to him, especially when he was unable to figure out "who" was the one who was giving his recordings to the bootleggers.
Now hopefully those that possess low gen copies of his recordings will share them again.

Someone who knows Freezer also might know who the artist was but the one of funniest things he told me over the phone one time was how he stealth taped a major N.O. area artist in jail with correctional officers standing pretty much next to him while doing it. For the record he wasn't incarcerated but opened the show for him, they were playing for inmates there at the time.

I remember having had about two or three PMs with him, one about a requested reseed of his 1975 Mac-show that I would have only seeded after a "go ahead!" coming from his side, what he did. Other topic was his incomplete 1977 Dead-tape and my question about the remaining set, and he did explain me quite kindly what might have (or might haven´t) happened to the rest of that show. I feel so glad even now that there are so many people that were touched by him. While they didn't do an obituary on him it was probably a heart attack. He WAS massively overweight. Im sure he always talked about me. Now i live in florida with my mom and stepdad, and i am extremely happy. Some of you knew him personally. Thank you for babysitting him. Since he spent all his time on here, im glad he became a celebrity. he was a music genius to say the least. But most of all, he was my dad.

I was there and I can see myself in the photo.

HOWEVER, these Sunday free concerts just weren't a gig for the ABB.

Every band in the area played these Sunday free concerts. As did some upcoming touring acts.

In 1973, the city refused to let this continue in Audubon park, but changed the location to New Orleans' City Park.

I remember seeing Bachman Turner Overweight at one of these Sunday shows, and I have many tapes of local bands at these shows. (no to BTO (can't find the tape), but I did tape a very young Melissa Manchester in her pre-disco "sensitive singer-songwriter" incarnation at one of these shows.)

The one set I really wished I had taped was the Jimmy Buffet portion of the Jimmy Buffet/Chocolate Milk/Dr. John and The Meters free concert, because Jimmy was drunk, kept playing waaay past his allotted time slot, and the crowd started to heckle him.

Buffet decided to challenge one of the hecklers, and a big black dude working for Chocolate Milk jumped up and defended the heckler by yelling at Buffet, telling Buffet to go fuck himself. (Buffet was cutting into the time spot already allotted to Chocolate Milk, and that band was ready to go onstage and were getting pissed off as were their fans.)

Buffet jumped off the stage and was K.O.ed in one shot, before he could raise his fist. They carted Jimmy off in an ambulance. and in 5 minutes Chocolate Milk hit the stage.

Jimmy was O-U-T... period.

One of the funniest things I saw, at any show or concert.

I wasn't planning to tape Chocolate Milk, but I did catch part of their set after that, just because...

Anyway, I'm on the left side of the photo in front of Gregg.

(and yes, I have something from that show... Reggie the Bullet's 8mm home movies, but the film is not just a film of the ABB, but it is mainly home movies of us and our friends.....

Interesting that in the year before his death, when he was no longer at TTD, stuff like this seemed to be appearing. While these are posted by the official channel with no attribution, freezer has stated that both of these shows were filmed by "Reggie the Bullet." And that RtB had them buried away with no interest in digging them up. Hmm.

I know the Hendrix estate bought Art's Hendrix master. He seemed to have mixed feelings about it, as it's never come out from them.

That Baton Rouge footage was available for years before Freezer died. I remember downloading a silent version of it. The audio is from the previous night in Birmingham. Don't know the full story of the Lewisville footage though.

You are way off on the 5/19 footage Rspencer. The reason I know is I released it many years ago on the FBO message board. Sometime in the late 90's as I recall. Art had nothing to do with it nor did any Reggie the bullet lol. It was silent there is no audio with the original 8mm. Audio was added later. To the best of my knowledge no audio has ever been made available from the 5/19 show. I have always been curious if Art actually recorded it. If he did I imagine it will never see the light of day as I guess his masters are probably boxed up in one of his relatives attics or worse in a landfill somewhere. Does anyone know what became of Arts masters? I dont collect anymore haven't in a decade but I hate to think that his masters were lost forever.

the thing I miss most is talking to him about comic books.. the man was a walking encyclopedia. he had god knows how many tapes of interviews with comics creators he sent me a few, they were amazing. he sent me so many shows I couldn't keep up posting them here for a while (they are all done now).

Freezer used Sony Ecm 99 or very similar. He held it high for the entire show, like the hammer of Thor.
