I've been searching for a new media player but have can't seem to find one with all the features on looking for. What I need is one that supports Dolby 5.1 surround as well as DTS surround sound.

I purchased an Argosy HV335T Mobile Video HDD Media Player last year that works great but does not support true 5.1 surround sound.

Can someone recommend a good player that supports all the surround sound formats?

Thanks in advance.

I assume this is for your PC and not a mobile device since you are looking for surround formats?

If so, I use XBMC as it supports dolby digital, dts, dts hd, etc.

I'm looking for a standalone media player that connects to my TV which can play all my video and audio files from external harddrives. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

Similar to this but being able to support surround sound audio streams:

Any suggestions?

I have a Western Digital TV Live that I really enjoy. The only thing I've thrown at it that it won't play are some older, small resolution video files. The TV Live Plus version will also stream Netflix if you're into that.

Does the Western Digital TV live recognize a 5.1 surround sound audio track from a DVD on an external harddrive? Every player I've come across converts all 5.1 signals into a regular stereo signal with only a left and right channel when I play the DVD file.

Thanks for your response.

most of the media players give an 5.1 signal (AC3/DTS and so on) out on the digital output

NeoTV™ 550 Ultimate HD Media Player (NTV550) (http://www.netgear.com/home/products/hometheater/media-players/NTV550.aspx)

7.1 audio / the only player I know of that boasts gapless FLAC
USB input/HDMI and optical output for multichannel)

Boxee Box also does gapless flac but it sucks otherwise as a music player.
