EAC Question

I recently looked at the EAC log for a Stones show I acquired last year and the log states:

What exactly is that feature?????

CRC is sort of the same thing as md5, st5, ffp, etc. It's a file verification process. It's best used on files 15MB and under. md5 is better suited (more accurate) on files larger than that. If using CRC on files larger than 15MB, there is a VERY SMALL chance that it could determine a file is ok, when it is not.

I haven't used EAC yet, but looking at your log, it looks like EAC creates a CRC hash for the file, then burns it (or rips it) and creates another hash to verify that the burn/rip was successful.

EDIT: Unlike ffp and st5, CRC verfies the whole file (like md5), not just the sound portion.

Ted is correct here. While most people choose to rip in secure mode using EAC, another method is to use test and copy in burst mode. This way the track rips at high speed two times and if the CRCs check out the same then the track is considered perfect (just as it would be if you get an error free rip in secure mode).
