I use uTorrent. I am downloading a torrent (on another tracker) with a host of other downloaders but no seeder. We are all at 95% complete. It's been a long time and it appears no one is going to come along and help us finish.

Questions : Is it possible to identify that 5%? If it's something as simple as one or two incomplete tracks, and I can locate them elsewhere, can I just merge them into the current fileset and help everyone finish? If asking such a question reveals me to be neophytic I totally agree.

If this has been asked before, my apologies. -thnx.

You can try using the DHT function if it's not a private tracker/torrent. If your download is from a public trackers you can also try to add other public trackers.

if you look at the "Files" tab in uTorrent it shows you what files are complete or what percentage of a file is complete

2nd Q, I think the answer is no unless the files were originally from the same source the checksums likely wouldn't match
if the files are from the same source you might be in luck but I couldn't say for sure without having tried that

good luck

I would say your best hope would be to find the same file set on other tracker.

I also just happened to think of something- depending on the popularity of the content, someone may have uploaded to a place like rapidshare/megaupload or another place like it.
I got lucky onetime in a similar situation- after downloading the zip I opened it and then pointed the torrent at it and it matched!
I then went back to the tracker and let everyone else finish.
It's a BIG long shot, and you are more likely to find it at another tracker- but try searching on google, it can't hurt.

Good luck :)
