hello
i was hoping to clarify something. I've just finished burning a DVD that I've downloaded. i'm pretty sure it was PAL when I got it so I made sure it converted to NTSC. when i went to play it on my DVD player i got the
"NOT PLAY" message. this made me think it was still in PAL. then (for the hell of it) I threw it in my xbox 360 and it plays no problem.

my question is this: everything online implies that a North American xbox doesn't play PAL dvds... i'm thinking the problem is my DVD player. perhaps its getting up there in age and that's the reason it won't play.

any thoughts on this are appreciated:)

but that phillips piece (which I have n like) can get weird with dvds we might burn ourselves which contain VIDEO_TS folder. FYI

The last players i've bought have been from stores - Aldi, Dollar Store and Dollar General all for under $20 to $25. I give them as gifts (so people quit telling me my dvd's won't play). All handled PAL - NTSC and D/L's no problem...

the pioneer player plays.img burnt stuff fine but gets weird with things I have burnt with Burn....just a caveat.

Get a $25 Cyberhome. Plays everything I've ever put in it.

And never convert from PAL to NTSC, unless you just enjoy losing quality.

They are probably talking about region 2 commercial PAL discs. Xbox 360s (and regular Xbox as well) will play region-free PAL DVDs (like what you can get here) with no problem.

i've never had a problem with mine & it's a slightly older model than that one.
